E3D V6 Nozzle X – 1.75mm

Overview
The V6 Nozzle X is our ‘One to rule them all’ nozzle, made from a special alloy of tool steel we have been able to create a nozzle that is immensely hard but also maintains its hardness to high temperatures without softening. We have also added a layer of hard, slick nickel plating which provides a fantastic balance of cost and wear resistance. The cherry on the top? Our NEW WS2 ‘polyphobic’ nano-coating, no longer will you find hot molten polymers sticking to your nozzle. Whilst our hardened steel nozzles are ideal for printing abrasive filaments such as ones loaded with Carbon Fibre, the extreme temperatures can cause the steel to temper and soften, ultimately reducing its abrasion resistance. And then there’s our plated copper nozzles, able to cope easily with these immense temperatures but lacking the abrasion resistance required to resist Carbon Fibre. This is where the V6 Nozzle X comes in, a nozzle able to withstand crazy temperatures without softening. By going with a one-piece all-machined construction we were able to use our existing manufacturing processes to create our carefully tuned internal geometry, which provides fantastic flow response and keeps the exact same geometry and compatibility as the rest of the E3D ecosystem.

Benefits of our WS2 ‘polyphobic’ nano-coating:

  • Less build-up, particularly of sticky and filled materials to the nozzle cone
  • Improved first layer reliability; the slick coating has a reduced tendency to ‘drag’ material, particularly at sharp corners where tracks can peel up
  • Slicker, smooth top solid layers with a glassy like finish as a result of the smooth laydown of material
  • Easier nozzle cleaning, what little material that does adhere is easily wiped away with a paper towel leaving a very clean nozzle.

Fine Details
If you are looking for the ultimate nozzle in terms of precision, the V6 0.15mm High Precision Nozzles are sure to deliver. It is not as easy to use as our other standard nozzles so we do not recommend them to first time users. If you are looking to try your hand at highly detailed prints but still want an easy to use nozzle, then 0.25mm and to some extent, 0.3mm nozzles will allow you to get a feel of the particular requirements of high detail printing.

General Use
Our V6 HotEnds usually come with a 0.4 nozzle as standard, and the range from 0.3 to 0.6 has become the industry standard over the years. This is a good general-purpose nozzle, which will give you a good compromise between resolution and print speed. We find that the V6 works best with a 0.4mm nozzle and 0.25mm layer heights, while the Volcano achieves very good results with a 0.6mm nozzle and 0.4mm layer heights.

High Strength and High Printing Speed
The wider the nozzle, the wider the track, and the wider the track, the stronger the print. Parts printed with large nozzles (0.8mm and above) tend to have incredible strength compared to regular prints. Having a wide nozzle also allows you to print much thicker layers, reducing the total print time drastically (more info on our Volcano Blog Post). If speed is your #1 priority, we recommend using the Volcano with 1.75mm filament, as the filament has a lower thermal mass (due to a lower cross-sectional area) and therefore heats up quicker when in the melt zone. The question here is: will your extruder keep up? Volcano comes with a 0.8mm nozzle as standard but goes all the way up to 1.2mm for very large and noticeable layers. At this size, the layers have a certain aesthetic appeal to them, we think.

V6 Nozzle X Wear Warranty
The details regarding the V6 Nozzle X warranty provided.

We are confident that the V6 Nozzle X is so abrasion and heat resistant that it will be the last nozzle you will ever need. Because of this, we are offering a limited wear warranty for V6 Nozzle X.

The warranty applies to wear only, this means the nozzle is not guaranteed to never block or jam. The no-wear refers to the geometry of the nozzle and does not apply to the non-stick coating. It is expected that the non-stick coating will wear both internally and externally when used with abrasive materials. We are only providing a guarantee of the wear to the geometry of the nozzle to the point that it would significantly affect functionality.

The warranty applies only when the nozzle is used with filaments that are currently readily commercially available which are filled with either glass or carbon reinforcement or any less abrasive fillers. The warranty does not cover the use of more abrasive fillers (e.g. Boron Carbide, Boron, Boron Nitride, Tungsten or Tungsten carbide ).

The maximum rated temperature for the V6 Nozzle X is 450°C if at any time the nozzle is taken above this temperature, it will not be covered by the warranty. Above this temperature, the nozzle may permanently lose its hardness, and this is something that we will test for with any returns.

Once V6 Nozzle X is discontinued we will no longer be able to supply replacements, therefore this warranty will fully expire once we cease to sell V6 Nozzle X.

In the event you need to claim on the warranty, the process is as follows:

1. Contact the seller that you purchased the nozzle from to let them know you have been experiencing issues and would like to claim under the terms of this replacement.

You will need to provide proof of purchase.

It would be helpful to us if you also include as many details as you can relating to how the nozzle was used; which filament, how much, what temperature, etc. This will help us diagnose the problem and improve our nozzles in the future.

2. Return the V6 Nozzle X back to the instructed address using a tracked service. You will be responsible for the costs of shipping and for the nozzle arriving safely at the return address.

3. We will analyze the nozzle to assess the cause of the wear and decide if a replacement is appropriate.

4. If we assess that the nozzle has been used within the terms of this warranty and has worn through the use of commercially available filaments, we will send you a new one free of charge. If we do not, we will return the nozzle to you.

Under certain circumstances, we may choose to refund the purchase, if we decide to do this, you will be free to keep your nozzle.

Good value because when prints go sideways it helps to know it’s not the nozzle. I picked up the 0.25, 0.40 and 0.60, no regrets.
