The LDO Box Turtle Kit is an open-source, AMS-style filament changer designed specifically for Klipper-based 3D printers. It aims to provide users with an experience similar to an Automatic Material System (AMS) on standard Klipper setups, making multi-material printing accessible across a variety of machines. The Box Turtle Kit brings AMS-like functionality to any Klipperized printer, regardless of form factor, offering a streamlined and versatile solution for advanced filament management in the Klipper ecosystem. How It Works

BoxTurtle is a sophisticated, lane-based automated filament changing system. Each lane is equipped with its own dedicated extruder, enabling independent movement of filament to and from the tool head. Spool management is achieved through low-drag, top-fed electric respoolers, ensuring smooth and efficient operation.

Filament from each lane converges at a central hub (combiner) equipped with a sensor, which directs the filament through a single outlet to the toolhead.

To address any variations in rotation distance between the tool head extruder and the lane motors, BoxTurtle employs a toolhead buffer, such as the TurtleNeck by ArmoredTurtle.

For optimal performance, we recommend the AFC-Lite developed by Isik’s Tech @xbst. This system provides the essential sensor ports and DC brushed motor drivers required for BoxTurtle’s electric respoolers.
